Artist Encounters with Talal Al Qasemi

Join ceramicist and Qatari artist Talal Al Qasemi in a 6 day workshop that explores clay techniques. Get fired up for a great time and learn more about Talal's artistic process. Using the artwork “Fragile” from the “Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab” exhibition as the basis of your inspiration, you'll get to experiment with clay and create different forms and figures.

Museum Laboratory

How can a museum engage communities around modern and contemporary art? Join us for an evening of brainstorming, role-playing and experimental thinking at Mathaf on May 16th 2012. We'll be screening a special episode of Art21 on the innovative artist El Anatsui. After the screening, you'll be swept off to our art lab, where we will generate ideas that will shape the future of Mathaf. We promise discussion, new connections, and new ideas.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab Closing Celebration

May 26, 11:00am-6:00pm

Come celebrate the closing of the exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab at Mathaf with a full day of activities and performances, including a conversation between Cai Guo-Qiang and Qatari artist and writer Abdulwahed al-Mawlawi. Museum admission is free and there will be fun for the whole family on this special day.

This event is free, no RSVP necessary. Conducted in English and Arabic. Suitable for all ages.

12:00    Mathaf Voices Tour- Join a guided tour of Saraab in English or Arabic.

Maktaba and Mathaf Reading Circles

Twice every month from 4:00 to 5:30

The Maktaba Children’s Library project will host readings and activities at Mathaf for children 4-7 years old with the help of local volunteers. Special connections will be made with Mathaf's current exhibitions, encouraging families to think about links between stories and art.

Mathaf Voices tours

Join our Mathaf Voices interns for special tours of our current exhibition Cai Guo Qiang: Saraab, held in English and Arabic.

This internship trains creative university student to lead exhibition tours from their perspectives, perfect for those who believe that art reflects aspects of our daily lives.
